One of the things I find is so interesting about having a small backyard flock of chickens is that you don't have to worry about strict conformity as to the outward appearance of each egg.  Now, I'm purely referring here to color only.  Of course it is important that eggs for human consumption be clean and that the shell maintains its integrity with no cracks or checks.  We do our best to see that all of our eggs pass muster in the above areas, but we can afford some individuality as far as egg shell color.

Welcome to the Fowler's Farm Fresh Blog!

You are never too old to learn something new.  For almost as long as I can remember, critters of various species have been a part of my life.  I can thank my father for this.  Not to say that my mom disliked animals, but if it weren't for my dad, I think the most exotic creature I would have had would be a kitten.  (This is funny because that is the ONE critter my dad had an aversion to.  Cats were to him as snakes and other creepy-crawlies are to many.)

One of the first creatures my dad brought home were 3 chicks - 1 for each of us (myself and my 2 sisters).  It's funny...I don't have a lot of memory regarding caring for the chicks, but I do remember that...
